HeelUP! ToeDOWN!
Do you have a knee problem? NO? Do you want one?
No, it is not a joke. If you have an issue with your knee, one of your greatest dreads is stairs. If you don’t have a knee situation, the following will help you avoid acquiring one.
When ascending (going up) stairs, most of us have a natural tendency to lead with your toe. Yes, kind of like tip toeing. When descending (going down(, the proclivity is to lead with the heel.
These are both done to keep our weight going toward the stairs. The problem is…..
….it puts all the pressure on your knee.
The next time you are near some stairs, try putting your weight on your heel as you go up and on your toe as you go down. Compare that to the way you normally take the stairs. You should notice that HEEL UP and TOE DOWN puts more pressure on your muscles and away from the joints.
Muscles build, heal, and regenerate. Knees end up getting replaced.
